David Njos

Artist, Sculptor, Landscaper
Born and raised in rural Williston, ND, David Njos is a Williston High School graduate, attended the Williston State College and the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado. David is a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division and after doing a tour in Vietnam he chose to return to Williston and raise his family in the rural setting in which he grew up.

David has earned a reputation as an artist, sculptor and landscaper. Locally, his most notable achievements include a commission by the Centennial Committee to design and construct a 30 foot high wheat monument to honor the pioneers of agriculture in Williston, a community veteran's monument honoring the Korean and Vietam Veterans, an etched woodcarving that hangs at the Williston State College, and an iron sculpture of two life-sized coyotes for the Williston High School/Middle school campus. His ironwork communion railings located in the First Lutheran Church of Williston displays the talent and diversity of this artist.

David's reputation surpasses the local area as some of his wood etchings have reached the far east of Japan, while leather pictures etched and painted into custom handbags have gone to Australia. A recent commission to do several projects for a Missoula, Montana client includes a custom iron gate, a 14 foot tall iron yard sculpture, and a 30 panel etched mirror ceiling in the grand entry of the clients home. He was commissioned by the North Dakota State Hisorical Society to do a sculpture of Sakakawea for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial.

Because of his love for nature and the outdoors, David expanded his art into landscaping. David Njos has built a reputation for originality and creativity when designing outdoor spaces for his clients. His use of natural materials native to the surroundings is one of his specialites. He has created waterfalls from field stone, rock and flower gardens, and sunken stucco campfire pits featuring art drawings etched into the seating area. Brick pathways with various designs can be found winding through yards David has designed. David is known for his ability to create the type of landscaping that meets the needs of his clients and is pleasant to view.

David's artwork has recently been featured in the 2006 fall addition of the North Dakota Horizons magazine.
